Men's Necklaces

Chains and pendants with a clean line, to wear under a collar or over a T-shirt.

Our mens necklace collection brings together plain chains in every link style and pendants with a strong, simple design: crosses, medallions, dog tags and more. Gold or silver tones, fine or substantial, they are made to be worn every day without a second thought.

For yourself or as a necklace for your boyfriend or husband, start with the chain, then add a pendant if you like.

Men's Necklaces

Chain or pendant: where to start

A plain chain is the most versatile piece of men's jewelry. It works alone, under a shirt or over a T-shirt, and our men's chains cover every link. The men's Cuban link chain is bold and flat on the skin, the rope chain catches the light with its twisted links, and the figaro chain alternates long and short links for a more classic look. Our guide to the types of chains compares each link.

A pendant adds meaning or character. Browse our men's pendants: the men's cross necklace is a timeless symbol, the dog tag necklace has a military feel, and the medallion necklace brings a vintage touch.

Length: where the chain falls

Length changes everything. Around 18 inches, a chain sits at the base of the neck, close to the collarbone, which suits fine chains worn alone. At 20 to 22 inches, it falls on the upper chest, the most common length for men and the easiest to wear with a pendant. At 24 inches and more, it hangs lower and works over a T-shirt or with a larger pendant. Broad shoulders and a thicker neck generally call for a slightly longer chain. Each product page lists the lengths available. Our necklace length chart shows where each length falls.

Gold or silver tones

A gold necklace for men stands out more and warms up the complexion; it pairs with white, beige, navy and brown. A silver necklace is cooler and more discreet, ideal with grey and black. Match the tone to your watch and rings so the whole look stays coherent. Thickness matters as much as color: a fine chain stays elegant under a shirt, while a wider link is meant to be seen. Most of our pieces are made of gold-tone or silver-tone stainless steel; the exact material is shown on each product page.

Layering and care

To layer, combine two chains of different lengths and textures, at least 2 inches apart, for example a fine chain alone and a longer one with a pendant. Keep both in the same tone so the layers read as one look. Take your necklace off before sleeping, sport and swimming, and store it laid flat or hung so it does not tangle. Our guide on how to clean silver jewelry explains how to keep metal links bright.

Questions

Good to know

Materials, sizes, shipping and returns: the answers to what you ask us most.

What chain length is best for a man?
Around 20 to 22 inches is the most common length for men, falling on the upper chest. Shorter chains sit at the collarbone, longer ones hang over a T-shirt.
Can I wear a pendant on any chain?
Most pendants can be worn on a chain of a similar thickness, as long as the bail is wide enough for the links. A heavy pendant needs a sturdier chain.
What necklace should I give my boyfriend?
A plain chain in the tone he already wears is the safest choice, as it suits every style. A pendant is a more personal option if you know his taste.
Should I take my necklace off at night?
Yes, it is better. Removing it before sleeping avoids pulling on the clasp and prevents the chain from kinking.
