Long Necklaces

Long chains, pendants, pearls and lariats to draw an elegant line over any outfit.

A long necklace draws a vertical line that lengthens the silhouette and brings any sweater, shirt or dress to life. Our selection includes a fine long chain, an oval pendant, a baroque pearl design and a layered lariat, mostly in gold-tone stainless steel.

Wear a long necklace alone over knitwear, or pair it with shorter chains for an easy layered look.

Which long necklace to choose?

For a versatile base, the long chain necklace is a fine gold-tone cable chain of about 24 inches, easy to wear alone or doubled. Our necklace length chart shows where each length falls. The long pendant necklace adds an oval pendant at the end of the chain, in gold or steel tone, and is the classic sweater necklace. For a softer, more romantic touch, the long pearl necklace combines baroque-style pearls with an adjustable chain. And for a more fluid line, the lariat necklace forms a Y shape with layered drops that fall gracefully toward the chest.

Long gold or long silver necklace?

A long gold necklace warms up neutral knits, camel coats and black dresses, and looks especially good on cream or white. A long silver necklace feels cooler and more graphic, lovely on grey, navy and denim. Keep the tone consistent with your earrings and rings for a polished look, or mix both on purpose if the rest of your jewelry already does. Most of our long necklaces are gold-tone stainless steel; each product page lists the exact material and finishes available.

How to wear a long necklace

Long necklaces are made for high necklines: over a turtleneck, a crew-neck sweater or a buttoned shirt, they add movement without competing with the collar. On a V-neck, let the pendant or lariat drop follow the line of the neckline. For a long layered necklace look, add one or two shorter chains, a fine chain at the collarbone and a pendant just below, leaving several inches between each so every chain stays visible and the long one keeps its full, flowing line. Caring for your long necklaces

Long chains tangle easily, so fasten the clasp and hang them or lay them flat after each wear. Put your necklace on after perfume and lotion, and take it off before sport, a swim or sleep. Wipe gold-tone pieces with a soft dry cloth, and treat pearl designs with extra care. Our guide on how to clean gold jewelry explains a gentle routine.
