Women's Necklaces

Fine chains, pendants, pearls and chokers to wear alone or layered at any length.

A necklace sets the tone of an outfit before anything else. Ours range from fine chains and delicate pendants to pearl strands, chokers and long layered styles, mostly in gold-tone or silver-tone stainless steel, with a few freshwater pearl and sterling silver pieces.

Find the one you'll never take off, or build a layered look in a few minutes. Necklaces for women that also make an easy, meaningful gift for her.

How to choose your necklace

Begin with the neckline you wear most. A fine chain necklace works with everything, from a crew neck to an open shirt. Pendants bring a personal touch: the heart necklace, the clover necklace or the moon necklace each carry a small symbol. For a necklace with your story, the initial necklace or the name necklace are a lovely choice, for yourself or as a necklace for your wife or girlfriend.

Gold necklace or silver necklace?

A gold necklace brings warmth to the face and pairs well with cream, camel and black; a silver necklace looks fresh with white, grey and denim. Stay in the tone of the earrings you wear most, and you will rarely go wrong. Most of our pieces are gold-tone or silver-tone stainless steel; a few pearl styles are set on 925 sterling silver, as noted on each product page. The sleek snake chain necklace, smooth and fluid, is one of the easiest everyday pieces to start with.

Necklace lengths and where they fall

Length changes everything. Chokers (around 14 to 16 inches) sit close to the base of the neck and suit open necklines. An 18-inch chain falls on the collarbone, the most popular length for a pendant. Around 20 to 22 inches, a necklace drops just below the collarbone and pairs well with higher necklines. Beyond that, long necklaces fall onto the chest and over knitwear, and are ideal for adding vertical lines to a look. Our necklace length chart shows where each length falls.

How to layer necklaces

Layering works best with two or three necklaces of different lengths, spaced about two inches apart. Mix textures: a fine chain, a pendant and a slightly bolder link. Keep one focal point, a pendant or a pearl, and let the other chains support it. Our guide on how to layer necklaces walks through more combinations. If you prefer a ready-made look, the layered necklace combines several strands in one piece. For something more classic, our pearl necklaces add softness to any layered set.

Caring for your necklaces

Put your necklace on after perfume and lotion, and take it off before sport, a swim or sleep. Fasten the clasp before storing it so the chain doesn't tangle, and keep pearl pieces apart from harder metal ones. Our guide on how to clean gold jewelry explains a gentle routine for gold-tone necklaces.

Questions

Good to know

Materials, sizes, shipping and returns: the answers to what you ask us most.

What necklace length is the most versatile?
An 18-inch chain is the easiest to wear: it rests on the collarbone and works with most necklines, alone or with a pendant.
Can I add my own pendant to one of your chains?
Yes, as long as the pendant's bail is large enough for the chain to slide through. Fine chains suit light pendants best.
How do I keep layered necklaces from tangling?
Leave about two inches between each length and choose different chain weights. A heavier chain at the bottom helps keep the others in place.
Which necklace makes the best gift?
A personalized initial or name necklace feels personal, while a simple pendant is a safe choice when you are unsure of her style.
